How to upgrade your PS4 Hard Drive
Just a few days away! We are all eagerly awaiting your copies of the PS4 to arrive. Be prepared on release day by using this guide on how to replace your PS4 Hard Drive. If you have not read the PS4 Hard Drive Upgrade Guide or decided which hard drive to get for your PS4 then visit one of the guides.
From the pictures you can see that the hard drive in the PS4 was a HGST 500GB 5400RPM Sata II hard drive. The HGST 1000GB 7200RPM is the hard drive that we recommended in our PS4 Hard Drive Upgrade Guide which will surely make it a smooth transition for your new hard drive.
Hard Drive Recommendations that will work with your new PS4
What you will need
Remove the PS4 access panel to the hard drive.
Remove screw holding the hard drive in
Pull out hard drive holder
Unscrew four screws holding the hard drive in
Place new hard drive inside hard drive holder and screw hard drive back in.
Preview of the Power & Sata Cables that connect the hard drive. Sata II and Sata III are the same slot
Place hard drive holder back in the PS4 while reconnecting cables at the same time
Screw back in the main hard drive holder and place the PS4 Access panel back on!
Congratulations! You just replaced your PS4 Hard Drive
- Firmware WILL need to be updated after the hard drive is installed. Please refer to the How to Update PS4 Firmware discussion
- SSD Drives mount the same way that other hard drives do. For the PC Gamers we know that SSD needs to be converted from 2.5inch to 3.5inch with a mounting bracket.
